How to Make Junnu or Kharvas With Colostrum Powder

Junnu is a cake or milk pudding known as Kharvas in Marathi and Ginnu in Kannada. Junnu called in Telugu. The Junnu Milk pudding is prepared with the colostrum powder or milk that a cow produces after delivering a newborn calf. Junnu is a traditional sweet or dessert recipe, and it is prepared with cow milk or cow colostrum milk or powder. The texture and appearance of the Junnu or Kharvas are almost similar to the milk-based paneer, but it is very soft and sweet. This tasty sweet melt is in your mouth and made very quickly, an ideal dessert recipe for any party or occasion.
What is Junnu Powder?
It is a milk powder prepared from the first milk of the cow after giving birth.
What is Colostrum Powder?
Colostrum powder is rich in high protein and low in sugar and fat. It strengthens your baby's immune system and is filled with white blood cells to protect it from infection.
Junnu/ Kharvas Recipe with Colostrum Powder

Furthermore, I would like to highlight some tips about the Junnu or Kharvas recipe. In this video, we used the Prakruthi Junnu Colostrum Powder and the sugary milk for a better taste. Then add cardamom powder with the extra flavor, and after your choice, you can add dry fruits for garnishing.
Ingredients:
- Prakruthi Milk Junnu Powder Packet- 1
- Milk- 2 Cups
- Sugar- 1 Cup
- Cardamom/ Elaichi Powder- 1 Tsp
- Cashews/Pista/ Almonds Small Pieces- 2-3 tsp
Kamadenu Milk Junnu Colostrum Powder
Recipe:
Step 1
Firstly, take 1 cup of milk and ½ cup of milk powder in a large bowl. If you have first-day colostrum powder, add 1 cup of sugar with 4 cups of Prakruthi Milk Junnu Powder.
Step 2
If you have first-day colostrum powder, add 2 tbsp of sugar.
Step 3
Take a pack of Prakruthi Colostrum powder.
Step 4
Whisk well until the milk powder combines well without any lumps.
Step 5
Whisk smoothly and make sure everything is combined well and add cardamom powder
Step 6
Now, place the pan/ kadai into a steamer with water or you can alternatively, place the cooker without keeping the whistle on cooker.
Step 7
Add water to the pan and stearm the kharvas or Junnu.
Step 8
Close the lid and let the water reach at the boiling point.
Step 9
Then, transfer the milk mixture to a round pan and place a plate to prevent the water from entering while the steaming Kharvas or Junnu.
Step 10
- Sprinkle1 tsp of dry fruits and seeds of your choice over the mixture.
Step 11
Close the lid and Steam the Junnu for 35 minutes and make sure to add the water to the steamer if water finishes in between.
Step 12
Check with the toothpick inserted to check it is cooked completely when the stick comes out clean.
Step 13
Refrigerate the kharvas or Junnu for an hour or till it sets completely and Unmold the kharvas carefully, and you can see excess water separating.
Step 14
- Finally, cut to desired pieces and serve instant kharvas / Junnu.
Tips:
- Traditionally Junnu is made with Colostrum powder, and condensed milk is added.
- Steam the Junnu on a medium flame.
- Garnish the Junnu with chopped dry fruits and add cardamom powder or saffron.
- To make Junnu without the condensed milk along with sugar.
- Finally, the tip is to use good quality Prakruthi Junnu Powder or Kamadhenu Junnu Powder to make an instant Junnu/ Kharvas recipe.
