Disasters are occurring with increasing regularity across the globe. The repercussions of a disaster are often severe. Disaster management efforts steered by governments have often found to be inadequate - more so in a country like India that has a massive population that are susceptible to the risks posed by unexpected disasters. India has been witness to tsunami, floods, cyclones, earthquakes in the last few years. It is clear that the Government alone cannot manage disasters.
